The Fundamentals Of Interviewing in 2021 (Six Tips)

I have been asked to write about wardrobe, resumes, interviewing, onboarding and many other topics.

As a professional recruiter and career consultant of almost 30 years, yikes, I am taking it upon myself to

share the commonsense ways of finding a new career and a new hire. Yes, there is more to it than this,

but sometimes we need to be reminded of the basics, and getting to the point is much easier to

understand and absorb.

Wardrobe - Be professional, be comfortable and respect what you look like (no jeans, ever-and that goes

for all parties)

Resumes - Your voice, your passion, your journey, and your values should all be upfront where anyone

can read about you and understand you all within 10 seconds.

Interviewing- Applicants - It’s a matter of having a conversation. Do you know what you offer, do you

know your accomplishments, and do you have the confidence before interviewing?

Interviewing- Employers - Do you know why you are interviewing? Is everyone on board in the

department you are hiring for, did you write the Job Description or are you using a very old one that is

outdated? Do you know how to hire when you find the person you want and not think you have to wait

and interview 20 more? When you meet someone that you like, connect with and know they can do the

job, HIRE THEM.

Onboarding- Make it easy for all parties. Have a buddy for the new person to go to; even on zoom it is

nice to have a go-to-person, not in HR. Keep it positive and send as much paperwork to them prior to

their start date for a better and nicer experience.

You- all of you- Be kind, have a purpose, don’t ask non-essential questions, and stop thinking so much

and just do it!
