A message to my son, Athan, now a Military Veteran.
7 years ago, I watched my son, Athan, take his oath to service and protect in U.S. Air Force, Active Duty.
It was one of the most rewarding, scary, and eye-opening experiences a mother could go through. He served with integrity, honesty, morals, and ethics (what he was taught all his life). He learned more about himself, how the military works, the good and the indifferent and so much more. He saw parts of the world I don’t know if he would have seen if not for the Air Force and he found his voice. The last two years he was an instructor, teaching others how to work on a certain plane that saves lives, and he did it with purpose.
Today he stepped out of the Air Force and became one with the working world. He has already started a new career and is ready to do more. He listened to all the help and advice anyone had to share with him, and it worked!!!
Why am I sharing? Because as his mother, I could not be prouder of his accomplishments, what he did and how he did what he did. Through this part of his life, he found his soulmate, and married her, adopted 2 cats that needed extra help and care, and found parts of himself he didn’t know he could do. So, all in all, it was worth it.
Athan, I love you, always will and always have and I respect the hell out of you!! Now, go forth and conquer what’s next.
To all my Military network and those transitioning out of the military, listen, get the help and advice that is given to you and ask questions, a lot of questions.
To Athan, smile more, keep loving, and let the rest of the world know how smart and humble you really are.
Love, Mom
