How Not To Answer Interview Questions
Interesting Questions Interviewers Ask During An Interview: Do you know what I know? Do you see what I see? Do you know where you’re headed in your career?
If you dislike answering questions you have no idea how to answer, you’re not alone. If you dislike being asked questions like these, you’re not alone. If you would prefer that the interviewer just ask you questions you know how to answer, well then… ME TOO.
Guess what, that is not reality. I know, why do employers do this? Why do they put you through the ringer with questions that have no bearing on the job? Partly because they can and they will, but more importantly they want to know how you think; why you think the way you do and how you reason.
Asking questions is just part of the interview process. Unfortunately, answering these seemingly ambiguous questions to their liking is what leads to a favorable outcome. In what may feel like a game of cat & mouse, you’re left with no clue about who they are, how they think, and what they are really looking for, right?
Now, how you go about answering these questions is a different story.
Short and to the point: Use your best judgement. Think about the question, think about who you are and what you would do in each circumstance and just answer the question honestly. Keep it simple, keep it real and don’t overthink it! The minute you start to think about what you think they want to hear is the minute you lost the job.
Just answer the questions to the best of your ability and move on. You will have the floor when it is your turn to ask your questions, and I have a boat load of questions you can ask on an interview.
