The Value Of Consistency
Why is being consistent such an important habit to have in your life, not only at work, but in your daily life as well?
Because consistency makes you feel balanced. Consistency is a patterned behavior. We have learned that in order to create a habit we must do it for 21 days, consistently. Some experts say it takes longer.
Can you imagine ensuring that you never forget what you are supposed to do by writing things down where you will see them, and doing this exercise everyday? Years ago at my first job as a Recruiter, I was taught how to write down my agenda, my tasks and needs every day at work on a journal/calendar. I did so for 11 years! We didn’t use computers back then, and yes I know I just aged myself, but the point is that I got so consistent at writing things down I started to include what I needed to get done at home. I was and still am, consistent at using a hard and soft calendar.
Consistency sounds easy, but it takes self-discipline.
I know many of you have had “that one great idea” and have told yourself that you will remember it the next morning. And poof, in the morning your great idea is gone. You didn’t write it down. You didn’t even consider writing it down and now that one great idea is gone. What if you were in the habit and consistently writing down your thoughts, ideas and must do’s daily? Can you imagine where you might be now with that one great idea.
So, let me share this best practice that I’ve learned over time and built a life-changing habit of: Be consistent in what you do, how you do it and why you do it every day.
In life, we get messy, we get lost and we get busy. Writing down your thoughts (and more!) is just one way of showing how consistency in your life can help you feel the balance that I bet you’re looking for. We all need a bit more balance in our lives.
