How to keep a new hire happy
Are you doing all you can do to keep your new hires happy? Are you setting them up for success or just setting them up? Do you have all the tools, people and computers they need starting from the first day? How are you planning on showing them you value them from day one? Do you have a plan of action, or do you wing it?? (Please don’t wing it, but if you were shaking your head after reading that sentence, you know you have some issues.) Below is just a short list (I say short, because there is a lot to do to have a successful new hire) to remind yourself of making sure you and your new hire have a fun and successful new start. And remember, a new start is not just for one day, it is for a month!!
· Did you get the approval from all the senior managers about hiring
· Does the team, department or company know that a new person is starting
· Did you set up your new hire with a hire buddy? (days before, not the day of)
· Do you have a formal job description with room to grow
· What are the plans for the first week
· Remote workers; are the set up with their passcodes, again, days ahead, not day of
· Did you send them a swag bag of appreciation
· What forms of communication will you be using and do they know how to use it
· Are the hours set
Again, this is just a short list. But it helps. If you want to know more about having a hiring buddy, let me know. It is a real thing and it does work!!!
