Support Your State When You Hire

With everyone fighting to hire the right one, regardless of where they live, now that companies are wanting to go fully remote, is anyone feeling a bit jaded besides me? Think about it: working remotely has tons of perks, (I get that, I work remotely), but when companies hire outside of their state do they ever think of the ramifications that will affect the state they live in?

I do!

I feel that if we start to hire, without where you live in mind, that our state can start to suffer. What ever happened to support your state, country, and home?

Again, I understand why companies might hire outside of their state, but I am not a fan of it. I believe if we hire within our state, we support each other just a bit more. And we all need support, any way we can get it.

Individual state economies will start to feel the effects of hiring outside of their state eventually. Hiring managers will slowly get confused on who they are hiring and their different time zones. How will they all come together last minute if they need to fly from wherever they are?

When you work in a different state, you get their insurance benefits, they get your taxes and if for some reason you get laid-off, you have to file in their state.

How can companies really assess their employee preferences if all they see is their face?

Body language, tone, how one carries themselves; this all is part of the hiring process, let alone the camaraderie of the company. By hiring within state lines, productivity, communication, and collaboration are more likely to be successful because of proximity.

This is something to think about. You can still hire diverse individuals in your own state. You do not have to look outside to find the one you want.

If you are reading this and agree, let me know. If you are reading this and disagree, please, let me know. A fast-reading article was put out by Forbes a few years back, you can read that here, it’s worth the education.

I understand we are all facing the new “abnormal” and we should, as the old normal did not work out so well; but we still need to be supportive of our own state. We still need to support where we live, how we live and why we live where we do.

Hiring is always changing, and it should, but where we find our employees should always be at home, in my opinion.
