What Do Recruiters Really Do?
What do we really do? We do a lot. We do different things. We have different objectives. We have different platforms. We have different jobs. We all might have the same title, but no one person does the same thing.
Why, you ask?
Because everyone thinks differently, recruits differently, communicates differently and respects people differently.
Our intentions & goals are to find a job for someone.
Here are the different types of recruiters and what they do:
Agency Recruiters are given roles to fill, on average, about 10-15 req’s per a week, usually not a lot of contact with the hiring manager, just a job description, they post the jobs and wait for resumes to come in. The roles can be either, temporary, temporary to conversion, direct hire, contract for a certain amount of time only and or contract to hire.
Staffing Recruiters/In-House Recruiters build relationships with the hiring managers, fill the roles in-house by sourcing candidates from all the different job boards-and then interviewing the ones they like, or just posting the jobs and interviewing from the resumes that they like, sometimes they do both. Some roles are temporary, contract and or direct hire for the company.
Sourcers- people that look at a resume and decide by a glance if they should delete them or move them forward. And yes, this is a job and a hard one, but a starting place if you want to become a recruiter.
Independent Recruiters- May fill temp, contract, or direct roles. They do all their own sourcing and all their own interviewing. They make sure they understand the role, the company, and expectations of their client. They know how to build relationships, how to interview and how to keep their applicants happy.
National Professional Recruiter: This is what I do. I work with multitudes of industries throughout the United States, listening to what my client needs and what their larger goals are. I consult with them and offer them the perspective & education that comes with decades of industry experience, and I make sure they are up to date with the current state of the job market. Then I find the person that will fill the role the very best (read: Make my client happy), while at the same time, ensure the applicant is thrilled and happy with their new role. I consult, I help, I tell them how it really is, and I don’t “ghost” anyone.
What do we all have in common?
The title of “Recruiter.”
Don’t judge all recruiters the same way as it would be like judging a barista the same way; we all have our own minds, our own way of doing things, skill sets and expertise.
Recruiters-we do what we do because at the end of the day there is nothing better then to say to a human - YOU GOT THE JOB.
